Beautiful bathroom lighting
When choosing your bathroom lighting you should use a layered approach. It should provide adequate illumination, add ambiance and increase safety. There are three basic types of lighting: general, task and accent. General usually involves overhead fixtures that brighten the entire room. The number of fixtures used depends on the size of the room. Task lighting is what you use when you are grooming. Task lights are often found on mirrors. They can also be added above the bathtub, shower or toilet areas especially if theses areas are separated by a partition. Accent lights are used to show off certain features such as a piece of art or inside of a glass cabinet.

Natural light should also be used. Sunlight streaming in through a window can make a small dark bathroom glow. If privacy is an issue try adding a skylight or roof window. Many come with electronic controls for easy handling. When shopping for lighting there are many styles and designs available.
Surface-mounted fixtures attach directly to the wall or ceiling. Recessed fixtures mount flush with the ceiling or wall. Track lights are small lights that are grouped together and work well as general or accent lighting.
As with any remodel or new construction project safety comes first. Lamps or other portable fixtures should only be used in bathrooms with adequate floor and countertop space. Never place a cord near water. Shower stall need to be well lit.
Bathroom lighting can also be luxurious. Try hanging an ornate chandelier over your whirlpool tub. Wall scones add a decorative touch and come in many styles. For a romantic evening dont forget candlelight. Another idea is to install a dimmer so that lighting can be adjusted according to personal needs.
