2007 sino Japan dialogue on stone
As one of the events of Xiamen International Stone Fair,"2007 Sino-Japan Dialogue on Stone" took place in a meeting room of International Conference and Exhibition Centre on the afternoon of March 10, 2007. It is organized by Chinese stone material industrial association, co-organized by Fujian stone association, Quanzhou stone chamber and Xiamen stone chamber and hosted by Xiamen Jinhongxin Exhibition Co.,Ltd.
The dialogue focuses on the problem Sino-Japan stone business and the solution. Japanese representatives are chairmen, vice chairmen and members of Japan stone material industrial association, director of ministry of construction, deputy chief of raw material industry association and some stone businessmen. Chinese representatives are Mr.Zou Chuansheng, chairmen of Chinese stone material industrial association and some presidents of stone companies.
At the beginning of the dialogue, Mr. Zou Chuansheng addresses briefly on the resent development of Sino-Japan stone business and the trouble it comes across. There are five reasons for the increase of stone processing cost.
1. The raise of labor cost. It is hard to hire skilled labor at the coastal area.
2. The increased price of raw material, fuel and power.
3. Government has reorganized stone quarry resources, so that the cost of quarrying increases. Companies get the extracting rights by bid, auction and listing. Market decides the price of extracting rights, the resource tax and resource compensation feed after getting the rights.
4. The increased cost of processing and protecting environment. The process way used before is dangerous to the environment. Now they increase investment on the environmental protection.
5. The increase of RMB exchange rates. Afterwards, Japanese counterpart also introduces the development of Japanese stone industry.
Later on, both sides discuss on the raising price and quality of Chinese stone. Chinese stone companies have tired their best to control and save cost, but there are still some cannot be avoided. China and Japan co-exist on stone. China has to raise the price to keep the factories running. Japan representatives understand China's situation, and wish China and Japan could communicate faithfully. Some Japanese stone companies cannot understand, especially those middle and small size companies. Japan stone chamber has promised to convey Chinese situation to those companies to make them understood. However, they feel puzzled because some Chinese companies have raised the price, but some have not. Besides, Japan hope that China will not only pay attention to the price, but also the factories environment(dirty, messy and dusty air, workers will fall down with silicosis illness) which affects the quality. Japan will accept the raised price only if China can meet their requirement of quality and delivery terms.
There are also some other issues should be paid attention to. Chinese representatives didn't arrive on time and their cell phones rung frequently which is in contrast to Japanese's attendance on time and serious attitude.
